  • Vertebrate animals are animals that have backbones (vertebrae)
  • Examples of vertebrate animals are horses, birds, fish, snakes, frogs, turtles
  • Respiratory organs, reproductive modes, body cover and habitat are specific characteristics that can be used to classify animals.
  • Based on those characteristics, vertebrates can be classified into mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and fish.
