Chapter 1: Listening Skills

What you need to learn in this chapter

In this chapter, students will refine their listening comprehension skills by understanding meaning in a variety of familiar and unfamiliar contexts. They will practice using appropriate listening strategies to process information effectively across different spoken genres.

Students will develop the ability to independently grasp the main ideas and specific details in extended texts, even when encountering unfamiliar topics. They will also work on recognizing attitudes and opinions within spoken content, allowing them to interpret nuances and speaker intentions more accurately.

Through structured activities, students will enhance their ability to follow classroom instructions, respond to questions, and understand more complex narratives. Additionally, they will practice using contextual clues to infer the meaning of unfamiliar words, expanding their vocabulary and comprehension skills.

By the end of this chapter, students will be able to engage with spoken texts more confidently, recognizing key linguistic features at word, sentence, and text levels across a range of spoken genres.
