Proportion

7.3  Proportion

PROPORTION
A mathematical statement that shows the relationship between two quantities or values in the same ratio.

EXAMPLE:

Students Name Zaqwan Wani Suhaimi
Number of Comics Read 12 ? ?

The ratio of the number of comics read by Zaqwan to the number of comics read by Wani is 3:2.
Count the number of comics Wani reads.

METHOD 1:

\(3\space\text{part}\;\Longrightarrow\;12\space\text{comics} \\1\space\text{part}\;\Longrightarrow\;12\;\div\;3=\;\color{red}{4\space\text{comics}} \\2\space\text{part}\;\Longrightarrow\;2\;\times\;\color{red}{4\space\text{comics}}=\;8\space\text{comics}\)

METHOD 2:

Number of Wani comics are \(2\;\times\;4\space\text{comics}=\;8\space\text{comics}\).

In conclusion, the number of comics Wani read is 8 comics.
