Length

5.1  Length

We will learn about the units of length found in mathematics and how to convert units.

  • Length is the distance between two points on a straight line.
  • Length is measured using a ruler, measuring tape and others.

Units in length:

  • Metre (m)
  • Centimetre (cm)
  • Millimetre (mm)
  • Kilometre (km)

  • Large units to small units need to be multiplied.
For example:
1.  1.5 km = ________ m
 1.5 X 1000 = 1500 m
2. 0.85 m = ________ cm
0.85 X 100 = 85 cm

  • Small units to large units need to divide.
For example:
1.

2850 m = _________ km
2850 ÷ 1000 = 2.85 km

2.

126 cm = _________ m
126 ÷ 100 = 1.26 m
