Volume of a Solid

6.4 Volume of a Solid

We will learn to determine the volume of a cube and a cuboid using a 1 cubic unit cube and the formula.

CUBE
\(\text{Volume of the cube}=4\times4\times4=64\text{ cm}^3\)

We find that the cube has 2 main features namely:

  • The sides are the same length.
  • Has 6 flat planes of the same size.

CUBOID
\(\text{Volume of the cuboid}=4\times3\times3=36\text{ cm}^3\)

We find that the cuboid has 5 main features namely:

  • Different side sizes
  • 3 planes of different sizes
  • 8 corners
  • 12 sides
  • Has space which is volume
