Students will develop essential reading strategies to recognize words using letter-sound knowledge, enhancing their ability to decode unfamiliar words effectively.
Through targeted exercises, students will learn to identify and distinguish letters of the alphabet, articulate beginning, medial, and final sounds in words, and blend or segment phonemes for better word recognition and spelling. They will also practice understanding the main ideas and specific details in different text types on familiar topics.
Additionally, students will develop independent reading habits for information and enjoyment while utilizing word attack skills and basic dictionary skills to support comprehension.
