Chapter 3: Reading Skills
What you need to learn in this chapter

This chapter aims to develop students’ ability to read and comprehend both linear and non-linear texts using effective reading strategies. Students will learn to recognise words by applying their knowledge of letter sounds, blend phonemes to form words, and segment words into phonemes for spelling.
Through structured exercises, students will identify and distinguish letters of the alphabet, articulate beginning, medial, and final sounds, and use word attack skills to derive meaning from unfamiliar words. They will also enhance their dictionary skills to support independent reading.
Students will explore a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts to understand main ideas and specific details. The chapter will further reinforce their grasp of grammatical concepts such as past, present, and future tenses while expanding their vocabulary within different thematic contexts.
By the end of this chapter, students will be able to read with confidence and enjoyment, extract key information from texts, and apply their understanding across various reading materials.
