Chapter 5: Thermochemistry

What you need to learn in this chapter

In this chapter, we will be learning about thermochemistry, which is the study of heat energy changes in chemical reactions. We will start by understanding endothermic and exothermic reactions. Endothermic reactions absorb heat energy from the surroundings, causing the surroundings to feel colder.

On the other hand, exothermic reactions release heat energy into the surroundings, making the surroundings feel warmer. We will also learn how to relate the amount of heat absorbed or released in a chemical reaction to whether it is endothermic or exothermic.

Topics in this chapter
1. Endothermic and exothermic reactions
What you will learn in this topic
  1. Define endothermic and exothermic reactions
  2. Relate heat absorbed or released in a chemical reaction to endothermic and exothermic reactions
  3. Carry out an experiment to compare and contrast endothermic and exothermic reactions
  4. Explain with examples exothermic and endothermic reactions
  5. Design materials using the concept of exothermic and endothermic processes to solve problems in life
