We will learn about the units of length found in mathematics.

Units in length:

Kilometre (km)
Metre (m)
Centimetre (cm)
Millimetre (mm)

Before performing addition, subtraction, multiplication or division operations involving different units, we need to convert all units of measurement to the same unit. So how do we change it?

EXAMPLE

Convert \(90\) mm to cm.

\(90\) mm
= \((90\div10)\) cm
= \(9\) cm

Convert \(5\) m \(30\) cm to m.

\(30\) cm
= \((30\div100)\) m
= \(0.3\) m

\(5\) m \(30\) cm
= \(5\) m + \(0.3\) m
= \(5.3\) m
