Chapter 3 : Reading Skills
What will you learn in this chapter

Students will explore various reading strategies, such as identifying key ideas and details, to better understand simple longer texts on familiar topics. They will also work on recognizing and extracting specific information from these texts, which will help them engage with a range of subjects in both fiction and non-fiction formats. Additionally, students will practice using context clues and known words to guess the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary, enhancing their vocabulary-building skills.
A key component of this chapter is the development of independent reading skills. Students will learn to use familiar print and digital resources to check the meaning of words and ideas, empowering them to read with greater confidence and autonomy.
The chapter will also introduce students to the concept of recognizing a writer’s attitude or opinion. With guidance, they will practice identifying the tone or perspective in simple longer texts, allowing them to analyze and engage with the writer’s viewpoint.
Students will have opportunities to read and enjoy both fiction and non-fiction texts, choosing materials that align with their interests. By the end of this chapter, students will not only have improved their reading comprehension but will also have fostered a love for reading, becoming more confident in exploring various texts for both learning and enjoyment.
