Chapter 2: Speaking Skills

What you need to learn in this chapter

In this chapter, students will enhance their ability to communicate clearly and confidently about familiar topics, focusing on expressing information, ideas, opinions, and feelings. They will learn how to use appropriate communication strategies, ensuring their message is conveyed effectively to both small and large groups. Students will practice using the correct register, adjusting their tone and language to suit the context, whether formal or informal.

Students will develop their paraphrasing skills, enabling them to restate short, simple texts in their own words. They will also practice asking about and explaining simple processes, enhancing their ability to share knowledge and explain concepts clearly.

A key focus of this chapter is helping students express future plans and ambitions, as well as explaining their own points of view. They will explore how to communicate common feelings such as happiness, sadness, surprise, and interest, responding appropriately to the emotions of others.

Additionally, students will learn how to keep longer conversations going by asking a speaker to slow down, speak louder, or repeat information, ensuring they can maintain understanding and interaction. They will also practice summarizing the main points of a story, helping them capture and communicate the essence of what they have heard or read.

By the end of this chapter, students will be more confident in communicating their thoughts and emotions, adapting their language to different contexts, and engaging in longer, more meaningful exchanges.
