Report on the Student Hostel Conditions
This report outlines the findings from the recent inspection of the student hostels. Cleanliness is a crucial factor in maintaining the health and well-being of all students. Based on the observations and feedback gathered, this report discusses the current conditions, causes of untidiness, and suggestions for improvement.
The current state of cleanliness in the hostels is not up to standard. Common areas like corridors are often littered with wrappers and bottles, resembling a battlefield after a storm. While washrooms are usually dirty, with clogged drains and bad smells. For instance, in Block B, corridors were so cluttered that walking without stepping over rubbish was nearly impossible. Such neglect not only creates an eyesore but also encourages pests and diseases.
Moreover, there are several factors that contribute to this untidy state. One major reason is a shortage of housekeeping staff. On top of that, many students tend to turn a blind eye to cleanliness, leaving the burden to others. For example, interviews with students revealed that some believed cleaners would handle the mess no matter how severe it became. Clearly, This lack of accountability is the root cause of the untidiness.
To address these issues effectively, immediate steps must be taken. Awareness campaigns and hygiene workshops can help students realise that cleanliness is everyone’s business. For example, schools that run monthly “Hostel Clean-Up Days” often report improved student participation and cleaner living spaces within just a few weeks. Thus, with the right cooperation in place, maintaining a clean hostel is no longer a far-fetched dream but a reachable goal.
To sum up, this report has examined the poor state of cleanliness in the hostels, identified key reasons behind it, and suggested effective ways to resolve the issue. With consistent cleaning and better student responsibility, a cleaner hostel environment is within reach.
